Jess and Tommy // Traverse City Bayside Wedding

Jess and Tommy were married on Old Mission Peninsula in Traverse City, in a community Jess’ family has visited for decades. What was anticipated for more than a year (because of pandemic rescheduling) to be an outdoor, summer celebration, turned into a very rainy wedding day. Thankfully, Jess and Tommy had worked with the amazing team at Fox and Fern Events to plan and coordinate their weekend, and their celebration turned into a cozy, romantic event set to the tune of falling rain, with fog rolling in off the bay for added effect. Jess had considered everything carefully for the day, and when things went other than planned, she rolled with it and made sure the party went on. And truly it did, showcasing the moodiness of Lake Michigan, but also the magic, when the rain finally stalled after the ceremony and guests were able to take in the unforgettable smell of northern Michigan after a fresh rain. I love looking back through these photos because they just prove that when plans must change, the joy can remain. Jess’ smile radiated throughout the day and the happiness in the tent wasn’t dampened one bit by the rain.

Madi and Jamie // Charlevoix Boathouse Wedding

Madi and Jamie were married in a beautiful ceremony at St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Charlevoix, and after spending time on Lake Michigan taking photos with their friends and family, we headed to The Boathouse on Lake Charlevoix for an indoor/outdoor wedding reception. It was a balmy northern Michigan day, and guests drank cocktails and played games on the lawn before dinner. Once dancing kicked off in the evening, the doors to the venue were opened and guests spilled out onto the patio to enjoy the cooling night air.

There are a lot of photographs of the in-between moments from this day that really gives a sense of how the day felt. The laughs the bridesmaids shared together while getting ready, all of them close friends not only with the bride but to each other as well. The care the bridal party took in steaming Madi’s gorgeous dress before she walked down the aisle, all assisted by Carly, the coordinator from Fall in Love Events. The tears that fell during the ceremony and during toasts, the laughs Madi and Jamie elicited from each other during portraits…I could go on, but you get the idea. While there are so many lovely portraits and formal photos that I could share with you, I opted to share more of the moments caught between the formals from this day, because really, I think that’s where a lot of the magic resides. And hopefully, it helps you feel a bit of that magic, too…the joy of being with your loved ones, the hope of a wedding day. The warmth of a northern Michigan summer. Enjoy.
